  About this Photo Album

This Album is a collection of photos by me. Motivation behind creating this Album is to provide the glimpses of natural beauty and cultural treasure of India to the people who have not yet been able to explore it. However, there are a few pictures from countries other than India too.

  Some facts about photography

These days cameras have become an essential part of our lives. Probably each of us owns a camera. Have you ever wondered who owned the first ever camera in this world and why did he invent it? How big was it and with what features? I recently did a google search to dig up the answers to similar questions and found some interesting results.

The first photographic image with a camera was obtained in 1827 (some links on web suggest that it was in year 1814), by Joseph Nicephore Niepce. It took an exposure time of 8 hours to obtain the image. As the research work on cameras continued, it took around 10 more years to redue the exposure time to 30 minutes. In 1841, William Henry Talbot patented the Calotype process (first negative-positive proces making multiple copies possible). In 1851, another breakthrough was achieved when Fredrick Scott Archer invented Collodion Process, reducing the exposure time to only two or three seconds. In 1880, George Eastman founded the "Eastman Dray Plate" company. George later invented flexible, paper-based photographic film in 1884.

Brownie was the first mass-marketed camera. It was launched to market in 1900. The first 35mm camera was developed in 1913. In 1963, Polaroid introduced instant color film for first time. The first point-and-shoot, autofocus camera was introduced in 1978 (I was born in the same year) by Konica. First conusmer camcorder was introduced by Sony in 1980. Canon holds the credit of demonstrating first digital electronic still camera, in 1980 (I currently own a Canon IXUS60 DSC).
