2008 Wimbledon Ladies’ Singles Final: Williams Vs Williams

The sisters have made it to the Championships final without loosing even a single set. This will be the eleventh time that Serena has made it to a Grand Slam final, winning eight of them. For Venus it will be her thirteenth Grand Slam Final, with six Title wins. This will be seventh “Williams Vs Williams” Grand Slam Final.

Zheng

Another story of the Day was “Zheng Jie” from China. After loosing the first set without much resistance, Zheng put up a great fight in Second Set. Serena had to struggle for every point in the second set. Finally, it were the fourteen aces from Serena, which got her home.

Day3

Dechy

Match of the Day was between 1st seed Serbian Ivanovic and French Player Dechy. It never looked like a second round match - the quality of game was very high and I am sure that this will prove to be one of the most competitive match in Wimbledon 2008 (Women’s Round). Ms Dechy was unlucky in this match. First Ivanovic survived a match point in second set with an unbelievable net cord. Then, Ms Dechy was denied a crucial point in third set, when chair umpire thought that Dechy had dropped her racket before completing the shot. This was a sad mis-judgment which could have been avoided with help of technology. I watched “An official film on Wimbledon 2007″. They mentioned that the organizing committee is trying to utilize latest technologies to make the game as fair as possible. And they have indeed doing a great job. The way how line-call challenges are decided is really cool. There are multiple (10 if I remember correctly) cameras positioned on different angles. The feed from all these cameras is processed to derive the right projection of the ball. I hope that Wimbledon will go another step forward and make it possible for players to challenge other decisions (than line call), which could be crucial for a match.

Another upset of the Day - Safin knocking out the third seed D jokovic.

Day 1 and Day 2

Andreas Beck

There are a Dozen entries from Germany in to the Men’s Singles Event at Wimbledon, 2008. None of these players except Nicolas Kiefer is seeded. I happened to watch three of these players during their first round matches; Berrer, Beck and Haas. Beck impressed me a lot before loosing out to Nadal, after a tough fight. Berrer and Haas appeared powerful too. Then there is Becker who has already scripted one of the biggest upset by defeating fourth seeded Davydenko. I am quite sure that Beck, Berrer and Haas would break in to first 32 rank by next year.

Entries from Germany in to Men’s Singles
Philipp Kohlschreiber, Philipp Petzschner, Michael Berrer, Tobias Kamke, Mischa Zverev, Simon Stadler, Rainer Schuettler, Benjamin Becker, Tommy Haas, Denis Gremelmayr, Nicolas Kiefer, Andreas Beck
