just checked times_of_india
read about the rocket attacks in to indian border by pakistan
and BSF firing back in response
before this there had been lot of fuss about
china’s incursions in to indian border

truth is that

is soon going to be spent
on big arms deals

what can we do than feel helpless?

we will not live helplessly forever
we will learn languages

and have whisky in the cold winter nights of delhi

The War Games

Thursday, January 8th, 2009

Last week Indian government signed a huge defense deal (2 billion USD) with USA. In the wake of Mumbai Terror Attack, and the war hysteria which has grown (or rather been deliberated created by two governments) between India & Pakistan, no political party has questioned this deal. In absence of the current crisis between India & Pakistan, such a deal would have invited censures from all political & financial circles. So, is it still tough to understand the war games?

It is not the USA Citizen who bears the burnt of those millions of dollars, which USA government pumps in to Pakistan as financial aid.  It is rather, the Indian citizens (and citizens of other third world countries) who have to pay the heavy prices of military funding to a country like Pakistan.

I feel that India & Pakistan should cut down their defense expenditures and spend the same money on national development and social welfare. This is only possible if the voters of two countries act mature, and elect only those politicians who can carry out national development, rather than playing to the tunes of so called world powers.

A couple of weeks back, in an official statement, CIA acquitted Pakistan leadership (i.e. Pakistani Civil Government, and ISI, and Pakistani Army) from any involvement in Mumbai Terror Attacks (though they were also suggesting an entirely opposite possibility, unofficially). Even the USA government did not show much interest in coercing Pakistani government to act against those, who were involved in the Mumbai Terror Attacks. In wake of the multi-billion Indo-American arms deal, American Government has started to put pressure on Pakistani Government to act against the culprits. The Pakistani government has also sensed the situation, and accepted that Kasab is a Pakistani citizen.

Has terrorism become a well planned marketing agent or is it just a coincidence? Recent news is that, India is evaluating the purchase of “Nuclear Defense System” from USA. Wow. Wonderful.

Understanding the Terrorism

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

This is the first part of a 3-part series.

—–

“Terrorism” has become one of the most celebrated news items these days. Newspapers, Magazines, Weblogs, Evey where there is a spur of terrorism related articles. Though a lot is being written & discussed about this topic, I feel that most discussions lack truth & clarity. The big media houses continue to carry out government propaganda, whereas most discussion on other small forums are driven by opinions rather than facts. Arguments are made based on emotions & affiliations, rather than based on rationality.

(1) What is Terrorism?
————————
The human society has been constantly evolving. We have come a long way from the stone age [when man was a predator] to the diplomatic world of today [where violence is a crime]. Human beings have assumed different roles through these different ages; predators, agrarians, barbarians … In today’s society use of any kind of violence against fellow human beings [very few people have same compassion for the non-human lives] is socially & politically unacceptable. Despite a strong social dis-approval, violence & wars still occur in differnt part of the world, for differnt motives. It is important to understand how these kind of violences and wars are different from terrorism.

(2) Terrorism Vs Violence
————————–
Terrorism is the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion. At present, there is no internationally agreed definition of terrorism. Common definitions of terrorism refer only to those acts which are intended to create fear (terror), are perpetrated for an ideological goal (as opposed to a lone attack), and deliberately target or disregard the safety of non-combatants. [From Wikipedia]

(3) What Constitutes Terrorism?
———————————
(a) Violence – “the only general characteristic of terrorism generally agreed upon is that terrorism involves violence and the threat of violence”. However, the criterion of violence alone does not produce a useful definition, as it includes many acts not usually considered terrorism: war, riot, organized crime, or even a simple assault.

(b) Psychological impact and fear – The attack was carried out in such a way as to maximize the severity and length of the psychological impact. Each act of terrorism is a “performance” devised to have an impact on many large audiences. Terrorists also attack national symbols, to show power and to attempt to shake the foundation of the country or society they are opposed to. This may negatively affect a government, while increasing the prestige of the given terrorist organization and/or ideology behind a terrorist act.

(c) Perpetrated for a political goal – Something many terrorist attacks have in common is a political purpose. Terrorism is a political tactic, like letter-writing or protesting, which is used by activists when they believe that no other means will effect the kind of change they desire. The change is desired so badly that failure to achieve change is seen as a worse outcome than the deaths of civilians.

(d) Deliberate targeting of non-combatants – It is commonly held that the distinctive nature of terrorism lies in its intentional and specific selection of civilians as direct targets. Specifically, the criminal intent is shown when babies, children, mothers and the elderly are murdered, or injured and put in harm’s way.

(e) Disguise – Terrorists almost invariably pretend to be non-combatants, hide among such non-combatants, fight from vantage points in the midst of non-combatants, and (when they can), strive to mislead and provoke the government soldiers into attacking other people, so that the government will be blamed. When an enemy is identifiable as a combatant, the word “terrorism” is rarely used.[citation needed]

(f) Unlawfulness or illegitimacy – Some official (notably government) definitions of terrorism add a criterion of illegitimacy or unlawfulness to distinguish between actions authorized by a government (and thus “lawful”) and those of other actors, including individuals and small groups. Using this criterion, actions that would otherwise qualify as terrorism would not be considered terrorism if they were government sanctioned. For example, firebombing a city, which is designed to affect civilian support for a cause, would not be considered terrorism if it were authorized by a government. This criterion is inherently problematic and is not universally accepted, because: it denies the existence of state terrorism; the same act may or may not be classed as terrorism depending on whether its sponsorship is traced to a “legitimate” government; “legitimacy” and “lawfulness” are subjective, depending on the perspective of one government or another; and it diverges from the historically accepted meaning and origin of the term.
[From Wikipedia]

(4) Exercise
—————

In wake of the above definitions, we are now well equipped to understand what kind of activities classify as terrorism. Let us try a set of exercise.

(a) Question: A political party organizes a protest against ruling government’s economic policies. The protest turns violent & leads to arson. Is it terrorism?
Answer: As a singled out event this can not be termed as terrorism. However, if there is a repeated incidence of violence during the protests, it is definitely terrorism. Repeated violence implies that it is not by chance, but it is by design. Arson implies violence against non-combatants. The ideological motive of political party here is to coerce government to its [lawful or unlawful] demands .

(b) Question: A political party has announced a peaceful public protest against the government’s policies. Government warns the political party not to arrange any such protests. The political party defies the government warkings and organizes a public gathering. The government uses armed police force against the peaceful protesters. Hundreds of people die in police firing - is it terrorism?
Answer: It qualifies as state sponsored terrorism [as had happened in Sangrur this year].

(c) Question: There have been various incidents of campus-shootings at various Schools in the USA. Do these events classify as terrorism?
Answer: No. Here a ideological motive is clearly missing. The shootings are being carried out by people because of mental imbalance & they are not out their to prove any political or social point.

(d) Question: A certain secret organization keeps carrying out bomb blasts in busy city areas of a certain nation. Hundreds of lives are lost each time. The organization does not have any declared agenda, it is committing the crimes for unknown reasons. Does it qualify as terrorism?
Answer: This is a tricky situation. As there is a lack of ideological motive [as in case-c] it should not qualify as terrorism. But such kind of organized activities are rarely possible without any political motive. The lack of political motive here could only be a propaganda rather than a fact.

(e) Question: A certain sovereign nation (call it nation-A) calls another sovereign nation (call it nation-B) to change its foreign policies so as to suit the economical and political interests of nation-A. Nation-B finds the requested policies against the interest of its own people and refuses to adopt it. Nation-A invades the nation-B, destroys the civil life and properties, and sets up a dummy government in nation-B. It sends a message to the entrie world stating that nation-A will adopt similar strategy against any other non-coperating nation. Is it terrorism?
Answer: Yes, it is terrorism. We have been witnessing this kind of terrorism for last few decades.

———–
(5) In Indian Context
The violent protests conducted by MNS activitists in Maharashtra qualify as terrorist activities [both by national & international definition of terrorism]. MNS chief Raj Thackrey can be charged for terrorist activities, if the ruling government in Maharashtra has any political will to punish the criminals & terrorists.

…..
The second part of this 3-part series will highlight major terrorist problems which exist across different parts of the world.

Let us not get carried away by Kasab’s Identity

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

This is a follow up to my earlier blog post “Kasab is a Pakistani … so what?”. I realize that some of the readers have totally mis-understood my blog post [based on their comments at different blogs where I write]. Either I did not write well enough, or they did not read well enough, or a thought process was missing [or may be a combination of all]. In any case, I felt that some clarifications were due.

———————————–

The point which I had intended to make in my previous blog post was that Indian and Pakistani governments should take some serious steps to curb the terrorism, rather than just making statements which are of no good. I am sorry if some readers were unable to understand it [though it was well evident from the writing].

Blaming each other for the Terrorism is of no use to any of the country. We here in India get a very limited view of the other side of the story. We read and hear news reports about terrorism in India being backed by Pakistan. If you look at the news reports being published in Pakistani media, you will find it exactly opposite. You will read about terrorists [operating in Pakistan] getting support from India. You will read about Indian government’s efforts of creating a war like situation by imposing false allegations on Pakistan. Indian media portrays Pakistan as the culprit and the sole evil force. Pakistani media takes same stance on India. Net effect is that people of both the countries live in an illusion, where as the political [and military too] leadership of two countries keep on carrying out their personal agendas.

Though it is true Pakistani government was behind the Mumbai Terror Attacks [and many other such attacks in past], but this does not absolve the leadership of our country from taking the responsibilities of security lapses. Yes the terrorist were trained in Pakistan and came from Pakistan. But, what was our navy and our coast guards doing when these terrorists crossed Indian waters? Were the naval and para-naval forces not alert during the night of 26th November or they do not even have enough any provision for such patrolling? Indian government is now spending more than 100,000 crore rupees [per year] on its defense budget. As the tax payers of this country, we have right to ask our leadership to protect us from terrorism - irrespective of who is supporting this terrorism. The fact that terrorists are from India, or Pakistan, or from any other country, can not be an excuse to the government. But, sadly, the people of our country do not want to think beyond what their leadership wants them to think. Looks like that Indian citizens [even the educated ones] have been been completely befooled by the invalid stance of Indian government.

If Indian Naval and Para Naval forces were careless [either by chance or by design] on that fatal night, we need to ask questions to ourselves before pointing our fingers at the Pakistan. Of course we have questions which we need to ask to our neighbor, but that should come as a second step. First we need to know why our government does not have enough provisions for deterring any terrorist attacks? Why the terrorists convicted by supreme court are still not being executed? Why strict anti-terror laws get demolished for political reasons?

Indian government has failed miserably to protect the interests of our nation. Terrorists have been attacking our country repeatedly - in all parts of the country. While hundreds of innocent people keep dieing evey month, Indian government sits quite because of political compulsion. What has our government really done to fight terror, other than raising the national sentiments by making anti-Pakistan statements? In wake of deadly Mumbai attack, every one expected central government to act hard on terrorism, but only thing they seem to be doing is to make statements. Some of you might take it as a positive steps, as in the past our government has not even done that. But does making statements really help to protect any one against maniac of terror? If at all it helps anyone, it is those members of parliament who have to face the election after a few months.

Indian government keeps repeating the same statements “Kasab is Pakistani”, “We have informed Pakistani High Commission that Kasab is Pakistani”, “We have ample proofs that there was a definite Pakistani hand behind Mumbai Attacks”, “We can act against Pakistan if they do not act against terrorist”. And Pakistani government repeatedly keeps refuting the claims of “Kasab being a Pakistani” and keeps accusing Indian government of “creating a war like situation”. If this “War of words” between India & Pakistan makes any one of you feel that your interests are being protected, you are misguided. Of what good are these statements to a person who is the victim of terrorism? These statements might give an impression that government is finally acting tough on terror, but in reality it is not. If Indian government really had any will to act against terrorist elements trained in Pakistan, least it could have done was to sack Union Minister A R Antulay [who had suggested that terrorist involved in Mumbai attack were Hindu Zionist - an approach which a section of media in Pakistan has also adopted]. The fact that our government has not sacked A R Antulay, shows governments leniency with terrorist elements. The only reason why they have been pretending to act against terror [during last few days] is that they have to face the electorate early next year.

What was this entire A R Antulay episode about - If our government can not keep its own ministers under check, then on what basis do you people believe that they will be able to keep Pakistani government under any check? Those who are really getting carried away by Indian government’s repeated claims about Kasab being a Pakistani [and this is the only thing which they seem to be doing, rather than taking some long awaited action], need to give a break to yourself  - what is our government doing to really protect the interest of our nation.

As some of the members here have pointed out, not looking in to Kasab’s nationality will be foolish. It may be true. But will it not be even more foolish if we expect the Pakistani government to act against terrorists, just because we have informed them that Kasab is a Pakistani? Many people here seem to believe that “Pakistan is running Terrorist Camps” is a breaking news. It is a well known fact world over. Do not get too much thrilled if you have heard it for the first time. It may be a news for you, but it is not for the Pakistani Government. So do not get carried away by the news stories circling around. Do you feel that Pakistani government is unaware of the terrorists camps being run by themselves in their country, and passing this useful information [that they have been training the terrorists] to them will be a good deterrent to them to close down all the terror hubs? Are we not making a fool of ourselves by asking Pakistani Government to wake up. They are already awake, it is us who have been sleeping - success of Mumbai Terrorist attack is a proof of that.

By the way, for those who feel that Indian governments claim that Kasab is a Pakistani will deter the Pakistani governmet, I have a news, Pakistani Police has yesterday arrested an Indian in Lahore. Pakistani Police has recovered fake currency and fake identity cards from his possession. He is the the main suspect behind Wednesday’s Bomb Blast in Lahore. He is a Hindu by religion and Pakistani Police claims that he was trained in India for carrying out terrorist activities in Pakistan.

I feel sad when I see that leaders of both the countries are busy protecting their petty self interests, whereas the public of both the countries continues to suffer. The fact that emotional issues being raised by the selfish leaders are sufficient enough for the people to forget about their sufferings is even more sad.

Terrorism & Islam: A Few Questions

Saturday, December 27th, 2008

In wake of Mumbai Terror Attacks, a lot of discussion has been happening on “Terrorism”. Most people today consider terrorism as a “Religious Problem”. A majority of people today thinks that only agenda of “Islam” as a religion is to preach violence and to carry out butchering. This kind of sentiments also get some fuel from the history of our sub-continent. We have had a dreadful past which starts from “mass conversion & killings” during “Mughal Invasion” but does not end at the “religious atrocities” during the partition days. It rather continues to haunt us in form of “Hindu-Muslim Riots” in the post-independence era.

The religion has been used in politics as a tool to unite & divide people. The kings during the non-democratic India, and Politicians in the democratic-India have over and again used religion as a tool to protect their misdeeds. Certain religious institutes & religious scholars have also colluded with them to mis-guide the people of their faiths. Even till date, religion is the most sensitive and contentious issue in India.

I read and watch a lot of debate about “Terror & Islam”. Many people believe that religious constitution of Islam is inherently violent and hence it is natural for any Muslim to be a terrorist. I am personally “not for” this argument. It is unlikely that Prophet Mohamed created a new sect, for its people to fight, kill and die. It is more likely that certain powers have hijacked a section of Islamic people (which forms a very small part of entire Islamic world) and they are using them as terrorists.

While discussing this issue on a public forum recently, I raised a few questions. I thought I will post them here too for the readers. I will request the readers to do some thinking over these questions.

(1) Indian has two Muslim dominated neighbors - Pakistan & Bangladesh. Why is that the ”inherent violence of Islam” is more evident in Pakistan but no so much in Bangladesh? Of course, there is some extent of violence in Bangladesh too, but such violence is there in non-Islamic countries too. Even in India we observe violence by non-Islamic groups. But I would like a comparison between the extent of organized terrorism in these two countries? Don’t you see a big difference? What makes the Pakistan & Bangladesh so different, despite their Islamic origins?

(2) Is it really true that the terrorism in Pakistan is funded (funded is the key word here) by Religious Powers? Though it is true that terrorism in Pakistan is being preached as some of the “Islamic Religious Schools”, but do these schools represent the true face of Islamic world? Pakistan’s economy is in shatters to be able to support its civilian base, but yet is is able to run its military programs. These military programs include development of inter-continental missiles, development of nuclear weapons, and running cost of maintaining CIA & Taliban Terrorist camps, in addition to its armed forces. If the Pakistan-born terrorism represents the true face of Islam, will not all the Muslim countries be eager to provide financially fundings to Pakistan and thus support the true spirit of their religion? But fact is that Pakistan is surviving based on funding from USA and USA backed IMF.

(3) Have we ever heard of any terrorist camps being run in Saudi Arabia? If terrorism was inherent in Islam, would we not be seeing most advanced terrorist training camps in Saudi Arabia, since it is the riches Islamic country in the world? But the fact is that (Islamic) terrorism is being preached in those parts of world, where poverty, unemployment & illeteracy is at its highest.

(4) Is USA a Muslim country? If it is not, why does it fund a Muslim country like Pakistan, whose only agenda is to preach “Islamic Terrorism”? Also, if world Muslim community is pro-terrorism, why they do not contribute to the international funding to Pakistan, in steps similar to what USA is doing.

(5) Is it not true that USA keeps funding the terrorist agenda in Pakistan and at the same time keeps carrying out a propaganda about “Islamic Terrorism” aimed at maligning the international Islamic community?

(6) We can find glimpses of “violence” in the Islamic Texts. But it is important to look at the circumstance amidst which the Islam was born. Was the Christian community at that time (800AD) as diplomatic and as peaceful as it has become today? Which was the religion to first invent the idea of Jihad? Were these not the Christian Crusader - who killed innocent people under religious umbrella? Did those crusader not enjoy the support of Church? Islam was a religion born to defend itself against a Crusading Religion, so it is only natural that its initial texts would have some thoughts and provisions about war & violence.

******

Today both the religions have come a far way forward. Christianity has become much more refined, and so has becomes Islam. It is wrong to implicate the founders of Islam as war mongers & terrorists.

America is too afraid of Arab countries wealth. These countries have become wealthy after the ”Oil-Boom” which started in 1970s. As the oil market has boomed, so had boomed the American Propaganda about ”Islamic Terror”. Before ”Islamic Terror”, American propaganda was about ”Communist Evil”. Once America succeeds in destroying the wealth of Arab Nations, their next propaganda will be against the next prosperous country.

Pakistan’s Anti-Kasab: Indian Spy Arrested

Thursday, December 25th, 2008

After claiming a definite Pakistani Hand behind Mumbai Terror attacks & informing Pakistani government about Kasab’s [the lone captured terrorist during Mumbai Terrorist attack] Pakistani Origin [though the Pakistani Government never accepted it], the ball is back in to India’s court. Pakistani Police has on Wednesday night arrested a Indian Spy from Lahore.

As per a news report in “Dawn” [leading Pakistani English news paper], the suspect, identified as Satish Anand Shukla, is believed to have been involved in bomb blast in the Bahawalpur House [in Lahore] earlier in the day. Police has recovered fake identity cards and other material from his possession. Shukla is claimed to have served in the Indian High Commission in the UK for three years.

It will be really interesting to watch how Indian Government reacts to these claims. Will they also express ignorance [as Pakistan has done regarding Kasab] or will they try to investigate any truth behind Pakistani Claims.

Mumbai Attack: Another Conspiracy Theory from Pakistan

Saturday, December 20th, 2008

After putting forth the conspiracy theory that Mumbai Attack was an act by Hindu Zionist (which found lot of sympathizers including Indian Union Minister A R Antulay) Pakistan has come up with a new Theory. It is claiming that Ajmal kasab (the lone captured terrorist during Mumbai Attack) was not arrested by Indian Police during Mumbai Attacks - he was rather kidnapped by RAW during 2006 from Nepal.

….

As of now the issue has not found any attention from Indian Media. But, I am sure that very some Antulay Style politician will raise similar suspicions in India - does not matter if there are videos of Ajmal firing indiscriminately on public and that of getting nabbed down.

“War on Terror” & “The Imperialism”

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

USA’s so called “War on Terror” has resulted in the dramatic rise of Islamic Terrorism in last one decade. The world under threat of “Evil Forces” is probably the best environment which Imperial forces within USA (which implies the few rich and wealthy rulers of the country, not the ordinary USA citizen) would always want to exist.
…..
The USA is a powerful country and the recognition of any power relies on the co-existence of a strong (but slightly weaker) enemy. An enemy who can be branded as the “Evil Force” to arouse the fear in human soul. For it is the fear which drives human beings to act in most unnatural ways. It is the fear which kills the rational ideas in men and makes them blind to the atrocities being inflicted on them by their protectors & saviors. During the cold-war era, “Russian Imperialism” was the “Evil Force”, that threatened the existence of entire human race. After the collapse of Soviet-Russia, there had been a void of such an “Evil Force” and recognition of “American Power” had suffered.

…..

China was a force strong enough to fill up the void created after collapse of “Soviet Russia”, but the political interests of Chinese government were very different from that of Western Powers. China’s national policies were not being formed by Imperial Forces, but by the force committed to betterment of ordinary people. For years the USA (and other Western Allies) have tried to implicate China (claims of human-right violations, and complaints about lack of freedom to the Chinese people) in to a war-zone, but China always responded in a diplomatically accurate way, It pressed pressed its will & commitment to the sovereignty and at the same time showed a resolve of not interfering in other countrie’s personal affairs. As a consequence, the western propaganda about “Chinese Evil” has subdued during last one decade, and it has been replaced by “Fight on Islamic Terror”.

…..

In wake of the Western Propaganda and policies, today every Muslim carries an image of a Terrorist and every “Social or Political Islamic Organization” bears an image of that “Evil Force” which is a threat to the existence of Humanity. Naturally, the USA (and other western allies) are the “kind spirits” and the “saviors” who have pledged on themselves the role of saving the humanity. Out of this responsibility of being a protector, comes the right of defining the social, political & economic policies of every country in the world. “Economic Policies” is the keyword here, as it is vital in satiating the greed & hunger of the imperial forces which are bent upon creating a fearful world for their self-interests.
…….

When any one talks to you about “Islamic Terror”, first thing you should question yourselves is “who invented the idea of Islamic Terrorist forces”. Second questions you should ask yourself is “who is trying to educate you about the prominent threat poised to humanity by Islamic Terrorism”.

- Both the above questions have a common answer.  So let us stop getting divided on religios lines and unite ourselves as a human force. The religious leaders raging the religious wars often say that, “The Religious commitment comes before the National Commitment”. We must also realize that “Commitment to Humanity comes before the Religious Commitment”. Let we all be committed to love & peace. Let us not get misguided by imperialist propagandas and let us not give control of our nation’s “social, political & economic policies” to the fear-mongers.

Jundallah

Sunday, December 14th, 2008

Jundallah is a terrorist group fighting for the rights of Sunni Muslims in Iran. It does not strike me that this group has ties with Al-Qaida. But, what strikes (or rather shocks) me is that this terror group is claimed to have ties with (and support from) USA Government.

- It is interesting to know that a government which has invaded two sovereign countries (Iraq & Afghanistan) in last decade under aegis of “Fight against Terror”, itself supports terrorist groups (and too be more precise, Islamists terror groups).

- It is even more interesting to note that Jundallah has support from both USA government and Al-Qaida. Does it not make Al-Qaida and USA as allies?

*************

- We all are well aware that Taliban and other Islamic Terror groups were a brain child of CIA. The concept had originated during cold-war and was aimed at fighting the Russian Empires in a covert way. So, thats not a news for any one of us. The news (from last one decade) is that the Islamic Terrorism has back-fired after the collapse of Soviet Russia. The terror groups have grown out of CIA control and the USA (and other Western Powers) itself has become the target of terror attacks. But a close look at the realities like “Jundallah” create a suspicion about the claim that Islamic Terror has  grown out of CIA control. Is it that the CIA is just using the “terror groups” as part of a strategic propaganda against “Arabs” & “Middle-Eastern powers” who have emerged as strong political and financial forces in an oil-based economy? These forces are USA’s greatest financial rival (after collapse of Soviet Russia) in modern world.

- USA is a democratic country and claimed to be a great proponent of Democratic Ideas. But it does not reflect well in their actions outside USA. USA has on so many occasions destabilized Democratically Elected Governments for political and Monetary Gains. USA has also endorsed Military & other non-democratic form of governments on several occasions for their petty self interests. USA has also funded Islamic Terror groups in Past to create unrest in different parts of world. But the idea that they could still be funding a Islamic terror outfit while raging wars in different parts of word on the name of “Fight against (Islamic) Terror” is truly shocking.

*****
Here is a news item claiming that Iran Government has sufficient proof about USA/UK support to Jundallah. If the claim is true, then we all must wonder - what will happen to this world? Has the men in west really become too corrupt and blind in power struggle? I hope that all this is not true.

Body of Lies

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008

Body of Lies is an incredible movie.

….

For quite some time I have been looking at people as Muslims, Christians, Hindus and …. It has become so difficult to meet or treat some one like a human being, and without any bias about his cast and creed . When a house is burnt, or a life is lost, or a women is raped, first thing we want to know is the religious identity of the victim. Even before our “Kaarya Palika” [Police Agencies] and “Nyaaya Palika” [Law Agency] come complete their duties, the “Vidhan Palika” [the Politicians] swings in to action and it starts politicizing the sensitive issue. No one seems to be interested in the plight of the victims… Our Leaders, Our Media, … every one wants their own share of profit. It is not a local phenomenon my dear, it is an international trend.

“Body of Lies” is a well knit movie, which uncovers the politics behind “Myth of Islamic Terrorism”. When human beings are killed in Iraq, Afghanistan, or elsewhere, it is the people of these countries [who are mostly Muslims] who suffer the most. The social and economical life in these countries has virtually come to an end. Each day is like an eternal struggle. Refugee camps have become a synonymous to homes. Who is responsible for the plight of this mayhem? Is it Islam? No. The responsibility lies elsewhere. It lies with the self-centered, power-hungry, and corrupt world leaders [some of which may claim to represent Islam].

Just like the entire Islam is blamed for terror attacks, a natural reaction on part of Islam is to blame America and Britain for their plight. But, It is not the common men in America, or the common men in Britain, who is responsible for the atrocities on Muslim world. It is a selective leadership of these countries [which might claim to represent the entire America or entire Britain], which has to be blamed.

The movie criticizes the American Leadership for being too self-centered in their approach. This movie in itself is a great representation of “True Freedom of Speech”. The fact that such movies can be made in America, and can be appreciated by Americans, speaks a great about the common men of America. It is practically impossible for any other country  to be so open to criticism .

….

If you have access to this movie, please watch it. You might start to feel like a human being.
