What is Freedom?

Tuesday, May 18th, 2010

As France contemplates imposing a ban on Burqa (a veil worn by Muslim women), I am wondering if this ban would be pro-freedom or anti-freedom? Forcing a women to wear a burqa against her wish is a curb of Freedom, and so is forcing her to take off the Burqa against her wish.

The Morning After Booze

Friday, May 29th, 2009

It was not too much of drinking. Just had a couple of beers. But the head is aching as if I have drunken all night … Why is it so?

Is it my age?
Is it the tobacco?
Is it the Sinusitis, as Dr D had suggested last time?
Is it the worries trying to knock down the brain and escape?
Is it the starvation?
Or is it just an ordinary hangover?

The Indifference

Friday, May 29th, 2009

To Ivan Ilych only one question was important: was his case serious or not? But the doctor ignored that inappropriate question. From his point of view it was not the one under consideration, the real question was to decide between a floating kidney, chronic catarrh, or appendicitis.

Time to Act

Wednesday, November 26th, 2008

“We strongly condemn the terrorist attacks that have taken place in Mumbai. Our sympathies go out to the families and friends of those killed and injured, and to the people of Mumbai. We are monitoring the situation very closely and stand ready to support the Indian authorities as they deal with this horrific series of attacks. At this point, we are unaware of any American casualties.
- State Department, USA

“Outrageous” attacks in Mumbai will be met with a “vigorous response”. I have sent a message to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh that the UK stands solidly with his government as they respond.
- British Prime Minister Gordon Brown

These coordinated attacks on innocent civilians demonstrate the grave and urgent threat of terrorism. The United States must continue to strengthen our partnerships with India and nations around the world to root out and destroy terrorist networks.
- USA President Elect Barack Obama

“Urgent action is underway to offer every possible protection to British citizens in the region,I condemn these attacks unreservedly. Our thoughts are with the families and friends of those killed and injured,”
- UK Foreign Secretary David Miliband

******

This is how the responsible countries stand when citizens of their countries come under terrorists threats.

Now picture the stand of Indian Prime Minister and Indian Home Minister for last one year, while hundreds of innocent citizens have died in the terror acts. Forget about a strict action against terrorists, they have been shying away even from making a strict statement against terror, lest they should loose some minority votes.

***

For a change, this time Indian Government is bound to act - since it is not only the Indian citizens  who have been targeted in tonight’s attacks - but UK and USA citizens have been targeted too. And if Mr Manmohan Singh tries to dilly dally, as he has always done in the past, he will be screwed up by the American Forces (before Indian voters screw him up in early 2009).

Dusty Politicians; wake up and invent

Tuesday, August 26th, 2008

Revelations in the Jaipur Bomb Blast case are really shocking. The way terrorism is able to prosper and sustain on local level is a dangerous sign. Presence of strong base of Muslim hardliners in the country is a big threat. Indian is known to be a country with varied cultures living in harmony; Agendas like Jehad can destroy the peace and  harmony of this beautiful country.
I think it is high time that Congress (and other parties with similar political motivation) rethink about their policy of Muslim Appeasement. Congress government has set many wrong examples by demolishing POTA and by not executing the death sentence for Afzhal. Such policies will not only boost the motivation of anti-national elements, but also bring down the moral of security personal defending this country. Political parties must rethink their decisions; they need to realize that they can not put their vote banks before the country.
In the modern world where terrorism is the new mantra to waging war; USA and Europe are putting measures in place to fight terrorism. On the other hand India is going a few step backwards. Should the people defining wrong policies not be prosecuted under Anti-national acts?

If political parties really need some agenda to fetch them votes, they should invent agendas which do not compromise on national security. Why all the innovation stopped? Why are they not able to find harmless issues? Time to hire some business managers for Indian Politics.
